How to import video from camcorder to Mac

You may be ready to make a movie after you capture great footage with your FireWire camcorder. In this condition, you need import your camcorder to your Mac. More specially, you need to connect your camcorder to your Mac, and then copy footage from the camcorder into iMovie. And when you import video into an iMovie project, it would divide your video into individual clips for the easy editing.

camcorder video to Mac

Part 1. How to Import Video from a Camcorder to your Mac
Step 1: Connect camcorder to your Mac computer with cable (USB/Wifi)
Step 2: Select mode of camcorder such as PC/Computer mode.
Step 3: iMovie will automatic open Import window.
Step 4: If DVD Player automatic open. just quit DVD Player first.
Step 5: So now, you can review your video or select "Import All"(make sure your switch is set to "Automatic").
Step 6: If you select "Manual", you can import some clip to iMovie
Step 7: If you import from Tape based device (DV/HDV), iMovie will automatic revise tape and import all
Step 8: iMovie automatic create thumbnail video after complete import

Part 2. Tips:
iMovie automatically detects your camcorder
iMovie will automatically detect when you have a FireWire camcorder connected. If you see the message No Camera Attached, make sure your camera is turned on and properly plugged in to your computer via a FireWire cable and that your camcorder is set to VCR, VTR, or Play mode. You can also click the Connection Help button for more suggestions.
iMovie supports different video formats
When you create your project, choose the appropriate video format depending on your needs. For importing video from your camcorder, choose between DV, DV Widescreen, HDV 1080i, and HDV 720i. For recording from your iSight, select iSight. If you will be copying MPEG-4 files from your PDA or phone, select MPEG-4.
Import directly to the iMovie timeline
You can import footage directly from your camcorder to the iMovie timeline rather than to the Clips pane. This is a quick and easy way to get your footage into your iMovie project. You can then edit right in the timeline. From the iMovie menu, choose Preferences, click Import, and then choose the option Place clips in Movie Timeline.
If you're importing video that is already edited
Instead of importing your video as separate clips, you can set iMovie to import your video as a single clip. This may be useful if you're importing a movie that you've already edited and you just want to change a small portion. From the iMovie menu, choose Preferences, click Import, and then deselect the "Start a new clip at each scene break" option. If you prefer, select "Limit scene length to" and set a limit for the number of minutes. This will ensure your imported files don't get too large, in case you'll be copying clips between iMovie projects.
What you need to make a high-definition video with iMovie
High definition video is quickly becoming the format you see broadcast on TV. An HD camcorder stores more pixels than a standard camcorder, letting you see more detail in your video footage. iMovie supports importing and editing video from HD camcorders (HDV 720p and 1080i), so you can make movies just like the pros-and it's a great way to archive your most precious life events in the highest resolution possible .
Using video from an MPEG-4 camera
Many digital still cameras, PDAs, and mobile phones let you record short videos in the MPEG-4 format, a standard compression that is used to significantly reduce the file size of video. While iMovie doesn't know how to import video from these devices directly, as it does with FireWire devices, you can still use the MPEG-4 files once you've copied them to your Mac. Just drag them into the iMovie Clips pane using the Finder or import them using Import from the File menu.
Monitor the remaining amount of hard disk space
Digital video clips use a large amount of hard disk space. For example, five minutes of DV footage uses approximately 1GB of space. The same amount of HD video can occupy between 2GB to 4GB, depending on the format and footage. To save hard disk space, import and edit your video in sections instead of trying to do so all at once. You can see how much space remains on your hard disk by using the monitor located in the lower-right corner of the iMovie window.
Using video from your connected or built-in iSight camera
You can record video directly into your iMovie project with your iSight camera. That’s to say, you can add clips to your project spontaneously while you're working on it. Just connect your iSight camera to the FireWire port of your Mac and you're ready to start recording. If you have more then one camcorder connected, such as a camcorder and an iSight,- or you have an iMac with a built-in iSight-choose iSight from the pop-up menu that appears when you switch to camera mode.

Gripping Antenna Drama Won’t Hold iPhone 4 Back, Says Analyst

Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu says concerns over the iPhone 4’s antenna performance are overblown and aren’t likely to affect sales.

“We don’t think the antenna issue is that big of a deal where it would warrant a product recall,” he said in a note to clients today. “The reason is that most users have a case anyway to protect their iPhone and to customize to their personal preferences.”

And if things do go downhill, there’s an easy solution: Apple (AAPL) offers a discount on its $29 iPhone 4 bumpers or includes one for free with every iPhone 4 purchase.

Microsoft: We’re Selling Seven Copies of Windows 7 a Second

It took nearly a decade, but it appears that Microsoft (MSFT) has finally developed a worthy heir to Windows XP. Evidently, Windows 7 is proving the commercial success that Windows Vista never was.

At the company’s annual meeting last fall, CEO Steve Ballmer claimed the operating system had sold twice as many units as any OS in a comparable timeframe, though he didn’t offer a hard number. Now, four months later, we have one: Microsoft has sold 150 million copies since the October 2009 launch. And that, as the company notes, makes Windows 7 the fastest-selling operating system in history, with seven copies of Windows 7 sold every second.

If there was pent-up demand created by the poor reception for Windows Vista, Windows 7 seems to have released it–in both the consumer and enterprise markets.

Apple Selling .434 iPads Per Second

Some more iPad trumpet-blowing from Apple: The company sold three million iPads as of Monday–80 days after the U.S. launch. That’s approximately 37,500 iPads a day–1,562 per hour, 26 per minute and .434 per second.

“People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” CEO Steve Jobs said in a statement. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”

The current pace of iPad sales means Apple (AAPL) appears on track to blow the doors off most analyst estimates. Earlier this year, Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi predicted sales would hit five million units in the first year, while Morgan Stanley (MS) analyst Katy Huberty was looking for more than six million. More recently, RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky bullishly predicted sales of eight million, which at this point seem entirely realistic.

The official release below.

Apple Sells Three Million iPads in 80 Days

CUPERTINO, California–June 22, 2010–Apple® today announced that it sold its three millionth iPad™ yesterday, just 80 days after its introduction in the US. iPad is a revolutionary and magical product that allows users to connect with their apps, content and the Internet in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before.

“People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”

Developers have created over 11,000 exciting new apps for iPad that take advantage of its Multi-Touch™ user interface, large screen and high-quality graphics. iPad will run almost all of the more than 225,000 apps on the App Store, including apps already purchased for your iPhone® or iPod touch®.

Users can browse the web, read and send email, enjoy and share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, read ebooks and much more, all using iPad’s revolutionary Multi-Touch user interface. iPad is 0.5 inches thin and weighs just 1.5 pounds–thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook–and delivers up to 10 hours of battery life.

DVD Decrypter is a free DVD ripper that can create backup disc images of the DVD-Video structure of DVDs. CSS decrypting software (such as DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, Smartripper, and DVD Shrink) allows a region-specific DVD to be copied as an all-region DVD. It also removes Macrovision, Content Scrambling System (CSS), region codes, and user operation prohibition.
Step 1. Install DVD decypher
Download it from: http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/. To install DVD decypher, simply mount the .exe archive by double-clicking it, and setp by step to click "next".
Step 2. Rip DVD using DVD decypher
After you insert a movie DVD into your DVD burner or player, launch DVD Decrypter. In the window to the right you will see all the files on that DVD.DVD decypher

Nokia: Losing the Smartphone War One Ugly Pink Handset at a Time

Earlier this year, Rick Simonson, outgoing head of Nokia’s mobile phone business, set an ambitious goal for the company: “By 2011…we will be at par with Apple and RIM in smartphones,” he said. “Not only [will] we draw level with them, we will also win the war.”

Evidently, pulling ahead of Apple (AAPL) and Research in Motion (RIMM) is proving quite a bit more difficult than Simonson or Nokia (NOK) imagined. This morning, the company slashed its second-quarter financial guidance, and among the reasons cited: The beating Nokia is taking in the smartphone market.

“Multiple factors are negatively impacting Nokia’s business to a greater extent than previously expected,” the company said in a statement. “These factors include: The competitive environment, particularly at the high-end of the market, and shifts in product mix towards somewhat lower gross margin products. In addition, the recent depreciation of the euro affects Nokia’s cost of goods sold, operating expenses and global pricing tactics.”

So when Nokia reports second-quarter earnings on July 22, expect handset revenue and margins to be “at the lower end of or slightly below” the range of its previous forecasts. And expect the same of the company’s mobile device value share for the year.

An ugly admission for Nokia, but with smartphone designs like that of the new X5 (pictured above, further details here), hardly a surprising one.

Web Watchdogs Dig for Privacy Flaws, Bark Loud

As Web users entrust their life facts to Facebook Inc. and other websites, they are storing valuable personal information online where it could be exposed to marketers, fraudsters or simply people who aren’t the intended viewers.

That has spawned a subculture of self-appointed watchdogs who monitor Facebook and other sites for privacy and security lapses–most recently, an AT&T Inc. (T) website was breached to obtain the email addresses of some iPad users. The watchdogs tend to be professors, programmers and computer hobbyists who are looking to warn people before they become victims.

One night last month, Will Moffat, a Web programmer from San Francisco, stayed late at the office to familiarize himself with the tools Facebook makes available to developers.

How to watch and play Internet videos on iPod touch and iPhone(3G)

Why do iPod touch and iPhone(iPhone 3G) can not play internet video besides youtube? The reason you can't view videos from other videos sites besides youtube is that they run on something called "Flash". iPhones and iPod Touches can't support Flash because of their software. This is why Apple created the YouTube application on your home screen.
Luckily, someone has done their best to fix this problem.
iTransmogrify! is a bookmarklet for iPhone and iPod touch which transforms embedded Flash content into direct links to natively supported formats. That means YouTube videos and MP3s can now be played from the iPhone's Safari web browser with just a few clicks. The iTransmogrify! bookmarklet recognizes and converts a variety of embedded Flash content from web pages so they will play on iPhone and iPod touch.
